Reason For Brentford vs Middlesbrough Predictions

  • Only three teams have scored less away goals than Middlesbrough in the Championship this season.
  • Brentford are the Championship’s fourth-highest home scorers this term and the second-highest overall.
  • Middlesbrough have a 100% defeat record away against teams currently in the top six.

Hosts look for more of the same

After what can only be described as a rare blip, Brentford got their promotion push back on course last time out, as they romped to victory away at Hull, scoring no less than five goals in the process. On that occasion, Thomas Frank’s men showed that they are well and truly in the hunt for a place in England’s elite division.

As recent form suggests, Middlesbrough are not an easy team to beat, but given the way things have gone at Griffin Park of late, the hosts will be feeling confident. Brentford were beaten when last in action at this venue, as they were narrowly touched off by fellow top-six boys Nottingham Forest, but that result isn’t likely to worry them. Prior to that defeat, the Bees had won six on the bounce at home, beating sides such as Fulham and Swansea, both of whom are in the top eight.

Offensively, Brentford have it in them to be both flamboyant and high-scoring, but their no soft-touches at the back. Saturday’s hosts have conceded just four goals in their last seven at home, which bodes well ahead of a game against a Boro side that hasn’t been free scoring on the road.

Away-day woes for Woodgate’s men

Middlesbrough come into this match having won two of their last three on the road, a pleasing achievement, but it is their away form that has held them back this season. Jonathon Woodgate’s men have won just two away games all season, which is concerning.

Their recent upturn in fortunes, which has seen Boro avoid defeat in six of their last seven, is pleasing but they’re now without a win in four. Home draws against the likes of Birmingham and Blackburn, as well as only two goals scored in their last 270 minutes of Championship football, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence ahead of Saturday’s trip to Griffin Park.

Home goals on the cards

Brentford’s home exploits this season have simply been superior to Middlesbrough’s travelling efforts. In the betting, ‘Brentford to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ stands out. We know that the hosts have the defensive strength to keep low-scoring visitors quiet, but they’ve also got the firepower to hurt a team that has conceded two or more in two out of two away against top-six teams and in three out of three against top-eight opposition. Brentford have scored two or more in each of their last four home games against teams outside of the top six, each of which they’ve won, conceding just three goals in the process.
