      Brentford vs Rotherham Predictions

Lee Carsley was thrown in at the deep end by Brentford with a game just hours after his appointment against Birmingham followed by a difficult trip to Derby, just 4 days later. Both those games ended in 2-0 defeats but he’ll have been very grateful for the fortnight off to get to know his squad and get across some of his ideas.

We should see a much improved Brentford outfit this weekend and it is an easier match too against a Rotherham side that are one of the favourites for the drop. Unlike Brentford, Rotherham took their time over finding a replacement for Steve Evans, who somewhat oddly left after picking up back-to-back victories.

They were beaten last time out but have since appointed former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn to take charge of things at the South Yorkshire club. He’s not had as much time to work with his players as his opposite number and it might just take a few games for him to get his philosophy across.

For the first time this season there is a sense of calm restored to Griffin Park after the short-lived reign of Marinus Dijkhuizen, which never really looked like working out. This is a big game for Carsley and Brentford but with the bulk of the squad that saw them into the play-offs last season still at the club, they should be able to pick up a few results soon and at Evens at home to Rotherham, they have a great chance of securing a win here.

Somewhat bizarrely both clubs have an absolutely identical Championship record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 6 defeats so far this season with 12 goals scored and 19 conceded. For the record, Brentford are ahead on alphabetical order and there isn’t likely to be an awful lot separating them in this contest.

Only Fulham, in the bottom half have scored more goals than these two but only 2 clubs have worse defensive records, so a few goals are likely here and we can see both teams scoring.

At 15/2 though Brentford are decent value to secure a 2-1 win and the first points of the Lee Carsley reign.
