Chelsea to Win

Reason for tip

Chelsea have won four of their last five away trips and seven of their last nine games. They’ve got a brilliant record against Brighton, going unbeaten in 14 league encounters, winning 10. The Seagulls have lost three of their last four matches, while they’ve shipped nine goals across their last five.

Chelsea 2-1

Reason for tip

Brighton have underperformed their xG this term, while they’ve averaged just over a goal per game at home. The Blues have conceded in their last two games, while they’ve scored exactly twice in four of their last five trips.

Filho Jorge Jorginho To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Brighton have already conceded twice from the penalty spot this season, while Jorginho scored his third goal of the campaign last weekend. The midfielder came close to an open play goal in midweek, so back him to score in this trip.

Brighton vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Brighton have lost three of their last four games
  • The Seagulls have never even led against Chelsea in the Premier League
  • The visitors have won seven of their last nine matches
  • The Blues have won four of their last five away trips

Potter makes quick return

Having left Brighton for Chelsea in September, Graham Potter makes a return to his former home this weekend. This is the earliest in Premier League history that a manager has led and then faced the same team, with his early season departure to Stamford Bridge curtailing Brighton’s great start.

The Seagulls should give their former boss a strong reception on the south coast, although the shear number of departures from the Amex to the Bridge might taint his return slightly. The main issue for the hosts is that Potter has quickly made Chelsea a force and they could build on their great form with three points this weekend.

Brighton’s bogey side

Brighton and Hove Albion have never beaten Chelsea in the 10 meetings between the two since the Seagulls arrived in the top flight. In fact, they’ve never even led for a single minute across any of those 10 encounters.

Overall, the Blues have gone unbeaten in 14 league meetings with Brighton, winning 10 of those. They pose a real threat in this trip, with the hosts struggling for form of late. The Seagulls have lost three of their last four games, while they’ve conceded nine times across their last five.

The Seagulls have already conceded two penalties this term, with only Bournemouth conceding more. Given that, Jorginho looks like a good anytime scorer bet in this clash. The Blues’ penalty specialist almost scored in open play in midweek, so he could cause problems for the Seagulls on Saturday.

Blues to prove too strong

Brighton took their time to get up and running under Potter, only consistently finding their groove in the early stages of this season before he departed. He’s had no such problems at the Blues, having picked up another win in midweek to secure their place in Europe past Christmas.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games, winning four of those. The Blues have won four of their five trips under Potter, so back they’re good value to pick up three points against the struggling Seagulls.

Brighton have an expected goals total of 17.1 this season, but have scored 15 goals. The Seagulls have averaged 1.2 goals per game at home so far, while the Blues have conceded a single goal in each of their last two matches. Following that, I’m backing a 2-1 win for Chelsea here.
