Tip Reasoning

  • Brighton have only lost four competitive games all season, including just one of their last nine.
  • Chelsea have only won one of their last six league games.
  • Brighton have been level after 90 minutes in nine of their last 13 games, with six of these being 1-1 scorelines.

Brighton prove tough nut to crack

Brighton rescued a late point at home to Crystal Palace on Frida and with their unbeaten streak now standing at five points there is every chance they could hold Chelsea at bay when the Blues come to visit on Tuesday.

The Seagulls started the season in emphatic fashion and while their winning form did tail off as the season progressed they still find themselves in the top half of the Premier League, which is largely thanks to them being a very difficult side to beat.

Blues’ title hopes extinguished

That’s something Chelsea found out just after Christmas as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton and, following their defeat at Manchester City on Saturday, they have now won just one of their last six Premier League matches.

Unsurprisingly, this has seen their title hopes almost completely vanish. They remain second in the table but are 13 points adrift of the defending champions and third-placed Liverpool are only a point behind them with two games in hand.

Another Seagulls stalemate on the cards

Despite all this, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are odds-on favourites to take the points at the Amex, and that leaves the value on the other side of the market.

Brighton have only lost four competitive games this season and only one of these has come in their last nine outings, while Chelsea have only won one of their last six league games. Backing Brighton in the double chance market looks excellent value.

I am expecting the spoils to be shared, though. Four of Chelsea’s last six league games have been draws and nine of Brighton’s last 13 in all competitions have been level after 90 minutes. Six of these have been 1-1 draws, including that meeting at Stamford Bridge last month, so that’s what I’m choosing as my correct score prediction.

Brighton predicted lineup: Sanchez; Veltman, Webster, Burn, Cucurella; Gross, Lallana, MacAllister; Moder, Trossard; Maupay

Chelsea predicted lineup: Kepa; Rudiger, Silva, Sarr; Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso; Pulisic, Ziyech, Lukaku

  • Both sides have found the net in Brighton’s last three Premier League matches and nine of Chelsea’s last 11
  • Nine of Brighton’s last ten Premier League games have featured under 2.5 goals
