Burnley to Win

Reason for tip

Burnley have won their last four home league games, three against sides that were in the top eight. Blackburn, meanwhile, have lost four of their last six away Championship fixtures – all to clubs in the bottom half.

Burnley 1-0

Reason for tip

Burnley will dominate possession unless they are reduced to ten men at any stage and could keep Blackburn at bay if they get the first goal. The Clarets have won three of their last five league games to nil when scoring first. Three of Blackburn’s last five away results have been 1-0 defeats.

Burnley vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions

  • Burnley have won their last four home league games.
  • Blackburn have lost four of their last six away Championship fixtures.

Clarets a cut above their local rivals right now

Burnley can pull away from Blackburn Rovers at the top of the Championship table by taking all three points against their Lancashire rivals in Sunday’s eagerly-anticipated contest. The first league meeting in seven seasons between these bitter neighbours should be a spicy affair anyway, but they go into the game separated by only two points in the two automatic promotion places.

Leaders Burnley have been playing some exceptional football under Vincent Kompany and wiped the floor with League Two strugglers Crawley Town in a midweek Carabao Cup win. The Clarets had 85% possession, took 23 shots to Crawley’s four and earned 12 corners to zero for the visitors.

That was with most of Kompany’s best players either rested or on the bench and so they should be relatively fresh for this clash with in-form Rovers. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side, sporting 11 changes, overcame a much-changed West Ham team on penalties this week to keep their momentum going.

Rovers’ away record pales in comparison to Clarets’ home run

Blackburn have won five of their last six league games, but their away form does not match up to their brilliant home record. Rovers have lost four of their last six Championship road games and all four of the clubs that beat them were in the bottom half of the table at the time.

It makes sense to support a Burnley side that have beaten Swansea, Norwich and Reading – all of whom were in the top eight at the time – at home within the last month. This would be a three-star win prediction if not for the injury doubt to Jay Rodriguez, who has missed Burnley’s last two games.

Given the very different natures of the Clarets’ home successes, a correct score prediction is not easy but Kompany’s side can be hard to get the ball off at the best of times and could keep Blackburn at bay if they get the first goal.
