Brighton vs Swansea City Predictions
- Brighton have won four of their six Carabao Cup ties under Graham Potter.
- Swansea have dropped to 22nd in the Championship after taking only three points from the last 12.
- Brighton saw off a string Cardiff City side in the last round away from home.
Seagulls seek Welsh double
Brighton are seeking a Welsh double in the Carabao Cup this week as they take on Swansea City after knocking Cardiff City out in round two.
Their victory in the Welsh capital last month was impressive as Graham Potter rested his entire first XI and named a bench made up entirely of under-23 players to take on Mick McCarthy’s side.
Cardiff weren’t quite at full strength, but a majority of their starters were regulars, so Potter can feel even more confident in naming a similar line-up for Wednesday’s home game with the struggling Swans.
Brighton’s great form in the Premier League has taken them as high as fourth and the training ground will be buzzing right now.
Only four top-flight teams have conceded fewer goals than the Seagulls to date and it’s going to be hard for a Swansea side without much punch up front to cause them problems.
Russell Martin made excuses for his side’s impotence in attack prior to Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Luton when Swansea threw caution to the wind after falling three goals behind.
But they still look very inconsistent and it’s hard to muster any support for the visitors to avoid defeat in this tie.
The only thing going for them, perhaps, is if the Brighton fringe players coming in aren’t quite as sharp after getting few opportunities to break into Potter’s side.
The hosts ought to win this game, however, and we will keep it simple by backing them in the full time result market only.
A 2-0 margin looks possible again, based on their win in the previous round and Swansea’s continued struggles up front.
