Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in Bristol City’s last two league games, the same being true of four of Cardiff’s last five matches. Also, under 2.5 goals has landed in nine of the last 11 Severnside derbies.

Bristol City 1-0

Reason for tip

Cardiff City have lost three of their four Championship away games this term, but they did only concede one goal on two of those trips. A 1-0 win might be the best Bristol City can manage in their current state after creating few chances in their midweek 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Severnside derby could be dull as ditch water

Saturday’s Severnside derby could be as dull as last season’s clash between Bristol City and Cardiff at Ashton Gate was.

Cardiff claimed the spoils when Perry Ng scored the only goal of the game, which had the joint-lowest total expected goals of any at the Robins’ home last term.

Liam Manning’s team warmed up for the rematch by playing out a pretty uneventful 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday in midweek. Cardiff beat Millwall 1-0 a day earlier.

Robins can keep Bluebirds on the bottom

History also points to a low-scoring affair with nine of the last 11 clashes between these clubs featuring two goals or fewer. In fact, five of the last 11 have seen only one goal scored and more often than not it was by the away side.

Although the odds of Cardiff repeating what they did last March are appealing and they have just halted a five-game losing streak in all competitions, they are bottom of the Championship for a reason.

Bristol City are stronger in central defence, central midfield and out wide, they just need a reliable striker to finish off the chances they carve out through patient play. Correct score backers should probably side with the Robins to win 1-0 this time.
