Bristol City vs Charlton Betting Tips

It will be an important festive period for these two clubs who are separated by just 2 points with Charlton currently in the relegation zone and Bristol City hovering just above it. A few positive results could really springboard either side away from danger but a continuation of their current poor form would leave either deep in trouble heading into the New Year.

Of the two it is Bristol City who have more reason to be hopeful. They won 2-1 on the road at Huddersfield only two weeks ago and drew 1-1 against a much improved QPR side last time out. They’ve not been anywhere near as good in the final third as they were in League One last season but that partly at least is down to the fact that Steve Cotterill has been forced into a more cautious approach because of some serious defensive deficiencies that haven’t completely disappeared.

Charlton are struggling at both ends right now and after a mini-revival they’ve gone 5 matches without a win culminating in a heavy 4-0 loss at Burnley last time out. They are perhaps the only side in the division who are frequently being outclassed and beaten heavily and these are really worrying times for the South East London club.

We might see a more attack-minded Bristol City here getting back to what they do best which is creating chances and scoring goals. Cotterill will feel a Charlton side that has conceded 3 or more goals in 3 of their last 5 matches are there for the taking and at 10/11 you can back Bristol City to net twice or more in this one.

The Ashton Gate club aren’t great at the back though and they have conceded the same number of goals as Charlton this term (38). Only Fulham have conceded more times than Bristol City and Charlton. Therefore an away goal certainly can’t be ruled out but with home advantage and given the way the Addicks have been playing, Bristol City look the more likely winners and you can back them to win 3-1 at 14/1.
