Bristol City vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
They are bottom of the table after 10 games, not the way that Steve Cotterill or his side would have hoped to have started their first campaign back at this level. However they are far from doomed to their fate and a win here would lift them out of the drop-zone and into at least 19th place.
There have been positive signs for Bristol City and only one side in the bottom half has a better goalscoring record. They have only failed to score twice this season but have only managed to pick up one victory so far in what ironically was their most difficult game away to Middlesbrough.
Their opponents Nottingham Forest have been fairly unconvincing themselves and come into this game in 14th having taken just 1 point from their last 3 fixtures. They have struggled at times in the final third but against the worst defence in the league, which on average has conceded 2 goals per game this season, you’d fancy them to find the target.
Both teams have scored in 5 of Bristol City’s last 6 games and only one game this season at Ashton Gate has ended without both teams scoring. Forest will feel their best chance of a win here is exploiting Bristol City’s clear defensive weakness so it should lead to an open contest and both teams have scored in 5 of their last 7 Championship fixtures too. Therefore certainly backing both teams to find the net in this one at 4/6 looks like a decent punt.
In terms of the result, this might just be a key day in Bristol City’s season. They are yet to win at Ashton Gate this term but prior to the international break there were signs of improvement. They led 2-1 at Ipswich going into the closing moments before conceding a late goal to end up with a still decent point.
Meanwhile in their last match, they were within seconds of clinching a first home win against MK Dons only to concede in stoppage time.
Perhaps a bit of nervous tension is playing its part but there is clearly some Championship quality in this Bristol City side and on Friday night they might just cross the finish line against out-of-form Forest and are decent value at 8/1 to win this one 2-1.
