Bristol City vs Preston Predictions

The bookies make Bristol City clear favourites to win this one at around Evens but that seems very short given their recent form. Preston are a solid side, capable of grinding out results even on their travels and they look capable of getting at least a point here.

Bristol City are going through their first really sticky patch under manager Lee Johnson. It was probably quite tough for them to decide on realistic aims for this season as they were very inconsistent last term but it’s safe to say a mid-table finish would have been the minimum they’d have been hoping for. Right now though they look more like a side that could be dragged into a relegation battle.

Their last 8 matches have produced 6 defeats and only 1 win and they’ve lost 3 of their last 4 games at Ashton Gate in all competitions. They’ve basically had a fully fit squad to choose from in recent weeks too so it’s hard to really know what has gone wrong.

Preston by contrast are still looking tough to beat with only 1 defeat in their last 6. They’ve only lost 2 of their last 13 games in the Championship and they were both narrow defeats in tough fixtures against Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday. They haven’t been quite as solid at the back as they were last season but they have been scoring more goals.

Former Villa forward Callum Robinson is starting to deliver on his early promise with 3 goals in his last 6 games while loan signing Simon Makienok has looked better for Preston than he did for Charlton last year, so they do cause problems and their increased goal threat has helped them avoid defeat in 5 of their last 6 Championship away games.

Certainly right now Preston are playing the better football and getting more results. These sides also have plenty of recent history given they came up from League One together two years ago and it is the Lancashire side that has had much the better of the recent clashes. Therefore, backing Double Chance – Preston or Draw at 5/6 looks to offer value here.
