Robins’ run ended by Saints

Bristol City look a bit too short in the betting to trust against an inconsistent Watford side when the two Championship clubs clash at Ashton Gate on Friday. The Robins’ run of three straight wins was halted by Southampton on Saturday in an emphatic 4-1 away defeat.

Meanwhile, Watford lost their fourth game in six to Stoke City at Vicarage Road to leave them down in 17th spot in the table. Things begin to get uncomfortable for any Hornets head coach when they are not near the playoff positions, so Alessio Dionisi needs to remedy the situation quickly.

Stoke had not won any of their 12 previous away league games, losing nine, so the defeat is probably worse than it looks on paper. Watford also managed to post a paltry 0.39 xG in the match and registered only two shots on target.

Watford are woeful on the road

Bristol City will fancy their chances of winning if the Hertfordshire side play as poorly, but Michael Skubala’s men have a tough midweek clash against Lincoln to negotiate first.  The Tuesday-Friday turnaround could leave them a bit jaded and open the door for the fresher Hornets to spring a surprise.

However, Watford have lost seven of their last eight away league games so it may be best to avoid the full-time result market if Bristol City’s midweek match is a concern. Both teams have scored in six of the Hornets’ last eight and the Robins’ last five up to Tuesday evening.
