Bristol City vs Wigan Predictions

Wigan won the League One title last season under Gary Caldwell losing just 7 games across the whole campaign and should be in for a good season on their return to the Championship. Plenty of sides have come up from League One as champions and gone on to do very well in the second tier and back-to-back promotions are not particularly uncommon so the Lancashire club could be darkhorses for a play-off place.

They look to have added well with Nick Powell and Adam Bogdan. Both players are capable of shining in this division while, if Northern Irish cult hero Will Grigg can repeat his goalscoring heroics of last term, Wigan will be well equipped to at the very least comfortably beat the drop.

Bristol City were in the same position as Wigan 12 months ago, coming up as champions and, although they took some time to adapt to the higher tier, they ultimately beat the drop fairly comfortably. They were a bit inconsistent but a double over Middlesbrough and 4-1 and 4-0 wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield at the end of last season, suggest they have enough quality to be doing a bit better this term. They might also be considered dark-horses for the top six.

This has all the makings of a really good game. In Grigg and Bristol City’s Jonathan Kodjia there will be two strikers with a real eye for a goal on show. Both coaches have a tendency towards playing attacking football so this should be one of the most watchable games on the opening weekend in the Championship. Goals look likely and backing Over 2.5 Goals at 11/10 looks to offer real value here.
