Bristol Rovers vs Oxford United

Bristol Rovers didn’t have the best run up to the start of the new season. They lost their last three pre season friendlies before losing their opening weekend fixture at home to Northampton Town.

They followed this by getting knocked out of the Capital One Cup, against at home, to Birmingham City.

They did then pick themselves up and win their next three League Two games, but fell to the early season pacesetters Leyton Orient last weekend.

This puts them in 7^th position in League Two with nine points from their opening five games, and a win on Sunday could send them as high as 2^nd place.

Oxford United are slightly above Bristol Rovers in 5^th position, also with nine points but harbouring a more substantial goal difference.

They are still unbeaten though, with their nine points coming from two wins and three draws. This started with a draw at home to Crawley Town, and they have seen alternating wins and draws in the league since then.

The only respite from this predictable pattern was a Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the 2^nd Round of the cup.

Past meetings between these sides show very even results. Of their last six meetings, each team has won twice and two have ended as draws.

Also worth a mention is the fact that none of the last five meetings between the sides have ended with Over 2.5 goals. To add to that line of thought, both teams have seen fewer than three goals scored in three of their last four matches.

This all makes odds of 4/6 for Under 2.5 Match Goals look incredibly appealing, and that is the bet I’m backing for Sunday’s game. I’m also putting a bet on Oxford United to Win 1-0 at 7/1.
