      Brugge vs Midtjylland Predictions

The two sides made very mixed starts to the group phase of this competition. Brugge were on the wrong end of a 5-0 thrashing away to Napoli, their second heavy European loss of the season having lost 7-1 on aggregate to Manchester United in qualifying for the Champions League.

All is certainly not lost and having got their toughest game of the group out the way early will still be optimistic of their chances of progression. They demonstrated their European pedigree in an outstanding run to the Quarter Finals of this competition last season. They didn’t lose any of their opening 15 matches and succumbed only to a 1-0 defeat away to eventual finalists Dnipro in the 2nd leg of the Quarters.

Interestingly that run included 6 matches against Danish opposition and they won 5 of them with Brondby, Copenhagen and Aalborg all well beaten by the Belgian side at various stages in the competition.

However this could a much tougher test and the momentum they gained in that run must have been lost by the summer break and a couple of heavy early European defeats. Midtjylland proved themselves to be the best side in Denmark last year, winning the title by 4 points and after 10 games this year they are again on top of the tree. Certainly they will fancy their chances against a Brugge side, who have also made an unimpressive start to the Belgian League.

Midtjylland made a good start to the group with a 1-0 win at home to Legia Warsaw having surprisingly knocked a strong Southampton side out in the play-off round. At Evens they are outstanding value to avoid defeat in this fixture and their draw at St Mary’s showed they are well capable of defending well on the road if needs be.

They are a fairly solid side who know their own limitations and won’t be too bold in their search for a win. 4 points would represent an excellent start for the Danes and provide them with a strong foundation to make the knock-out phase. Therefore a 1-1 draw is a likely result here and you can back that to be the case at Evens.
