Tip Reasoning

  • Burnley are struggling with absentees up front followinh Chris Wood’s departure
  • The hosts have won only once this season
  • The Clarets have lost four of their last five games
  • Leicester have won three of their last five matches, only losing to City on that run

Troubling times for Burnley

Losing your top-scorer is a worry for any football club, even more so when it’s to one of your relegation rivals. Newcastle arguably overpaid in their £25million signing of Burnley’s Chris Wood, but if his departure costs the Clarets Premier League football they’ll end up down money.

Sean Dyche and the club have a mountain to climb in their fight against the drop. The Clarets have won only once in 17 games to date, so they need to get moving in the transfer market to turn things around. Unfortunately, they’ve been left short-handed for this weekend’s clash with Leicester.

Lightweight hosts to struggle

Burnley have been left short on options for this weekend’s key game, with Wood’s departure coming at a bad time. Ashley Barnes is currently injured, while Maxwell Cornet is at AFCON and Matej Vydra has been out with COVID. With Aaron Lennon looking like the next man up, the Clarets look blunt.

That’s not ideal for a side who have scored only eight times across their seven home games this season. It’s also a blow given that the hosts have lost four of their last five matches. Last weekend brought an FA Cup exit to Huddersfield, while they’ve shipped three goals in their last two league games.

Leicester on the up

Leicester have had a mixed season, but they’ve picked up of late. They’ve won three of their last five matches, while scoring three times against Liverpool and Man City in the other matches. The Foxes drew 3-3 at Anfield before a 1-0 league win against the Reds.

Leicester’s performances have really improved, while they’ve scored 12 times against the league’s bottom four. They’ve won three of those clashes, so back them to see off a struggling Burnley team this weekend. The hosts look incredibly vulnerable so Leicester look like great value in this one. With Burnley appearing light up front, I’m backing a 2-0 victory for the Foxes.
