Burnley vs QPR Predictions

Burnley are in the box seat to secure automatic promotion given Middlesbrough and Brighton meet on the final day and at least one the sides will drop points. They could even secure promotion here depending on how their rivals get on in their games this weekend and with a game at already relegated Charlton on the final day, it’s hard to see them not getting over the line now. They are unbeaten in 21 Championship matches since losing at Hull on Boxing Day. They’ve not been at their best going forward in recent weeks but have kept on grinding out results and their late equaliser against Boro in their last home game and hard-fought 1-0 win at Preston last time out typified their spirit.

QPR can be tricky opponents though and no side outside the top 7 has lost fewer matches than them this season in the Championship. They are not in good form though having won just 1 of their last 7 matches which includes a 4-0 defeat at Brighton in their most recent away match. Prior to that though they’d only lost 1 of their 9 away league games in 2016 and for that reason the Clarets can’t afford to take this one for granted.

Their heavy defeat at Brighton was uncharacteristic of a side that has tightened up considerably at the back since the early days of the season when they were leaking goals. Burnley haven’t scored more than 1 goal in any of their last 6 matches at Turf Moor but their excellent defence has helped see them pick up 12 points from those games still with three 1-0 wins. In short they are winning ugly, a necessary quality in any successful side particularly in this league, where there are no easy games. It would be no surprise to see this end the same way and backing Burnley to win 1-0 at 11/2 looks well worth a punt.
