Bury vs Crewe Predictions

With relegation from League One the overriding memory of 2017, it is fair to say that Bury will not be sorry to see the back of this calendar year. The hosts have the opportunity to start the new year with a bit of a statement when they welcome a Crewe side who come into this match with a renewed sense of confidence on New Years Day.

A close game was predicted when Mansfield Town and Bury locked horns on Boxing Day, and that’s just what the two clubs produced. The pair went in level at the half time break goalless as neither side were able to break down the other and score that all important first goal. A more open second half saw the Stags edge out their opposition with a 2-1 victory, but Bury rebuilt their damaged confidence by shutting out Notts County in a 0-0 draw. It was two results which will not set the pulse racing, but this weekend’s fixture sees Bury return to their own ground and as they have won their last four league matches on home soil, the sight of their own fans will be a welcome relief.

Crewe backed up an excellent stand-out victory on Boxing Day against top-of-the-table Lincoln City with a solid 1-0 victory over play-off hopefuls, Stevenage. Still someway out of contention, Crewe’s away record is what has really let them down this season as the Railwaymen have only picked up five points from 12 games on the road. With such a low return, it will probably not shock anyone to learn that they have the worst points return on the road in the division and with each of their last four away league matches being lost to nil, it looks like a record which is not going to get much better any time soon.

Although Crewe have upset the odds with two excellent victories prior to this match, their away form is something which simply cannot be ignored. When you also factor in that they are travelling to one of the hardest grounds to get anything out of in the division, then we think that it is clear what sort of task is ahead. With this in mind, we think that backing a home win is the only decision to be made in this one.
