Cambridge United vs Bury Predictions
With the conclusion of the international break, the focus switches back to domestic football but in England’s lower leagues, the season has rumbled on throughout. This weekend in League Two, two sides who are perhaps playing their best football of the season so far come face to face as a resurgent Cambridge United welcome free-scoring Bury to the Abbey Stadium.
It has been quite the turnaround in form for Cambridge United and they were on a four-game unbeaten run until they succumbed to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Oldham Athletic last weekend. Prior to that run the U’s were languishing at the wrong end of the table and although they are far from out of danger, the league table certainly looks a lot healthier than it did this time last month. If Cambridge are to continue their revival, then they are going to have to improve a goal output which has seen them score just 17 times in their 18 league matches so far this season.
High-scoring Bury have won their last three league games on the bounce and enjoyed a 4-0 thrashing of Stevenage last time out. Their goalscoring powers has been a major part of the threat they carry and they have averaged a hugely impressive four goals a game in their previous four matches. In light of this, it should come as no surprise that the Shakers top the League Two scoring charts with 32 goals in their 18 matches so far.
If Bury are going to keep this impressive run going then their main scorers are going to have to maintain their current form. James O’Shea, the 30-years-old striker from the Republic of Ireland, has been particularly impressive of late and his four goals in his previous three outings leads us to believe that backing him to score anytime against Cambridge on Saturday represents an excellent opportunity for a decent return.
We are not done there though, as even considering the recent upturn in results for Cambridge, Bury should walk away with the three points. They have usually got the better of the sides when they have met in the past and their superior firepower means that we think backing them to get the win makes perfect sense.
