Cambridge United vs Port Vale Predictions

It has been a season to forget for both Cambridge United and Port Vale this year and although they both are currently achieving their minimum expectation of League Two survival, they will both be disappointed they were unable to kick on and earn a spot higher in the table. This weekend they have the opportunity to try and ensure a positive end to the campaign as they meet at the Abbey Stadium.

Cambridge United have enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in form over the past few weeks and even though they were unable to claim the three points following a 1-0 defeat away at Exeter last time out, they will come into this match full of confidence. Prior to that defeat the U’s had won three games in succession and that run of form has helped them put some much welcomed daylight between themselves and the bottom two. If the hosts are to avoid the drop, then they will likely have to improve on a goalscoring record which has seen them average just 0.93 goals per game.

Making the trip to the Abbey Stadium is a Port Vale side who will be hoping the appointment of John Askey as manager will pull them out of the poor form they have shown of late. The visitors have managed to claim a poultry six points from their last eight outings and with just one goal scored in their last five matches, it is easy to see the main area of the new boss’ focus.

This weekend’s clash between Cambridge United and Port Vale is the meeting between the two lowest scorers in the division. The hosts have also failed to score in four of their last five matches against Port Vale and with the visitors lack of goals of late, it seems fairly certain we are in for a low scoring game. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored is the best way to go.
