Bluebirds can soar above Seagulls

Cardiff City are unbeaten and looking like a Championship promotion contender this season, so a visit from an established Premier League side like Brighton will be a good test.

But actually the trip to Wales could be more of a test for fringe members of Graham Potter’s squad as the Seagulls boss attempts to placate some that have not featured in the club’s opening games.

Potter’s record in this competition is mediocre (three wins from six ties since taking charge at Swansea) and Brighton’s recent away run is also a concern for favourite backers here.

While Saturday’s comfortable 2-0 win over Watford was the Seagulls’ fourth victory in six at the Amex Stadium, they have now lost six of their last nine on the road.

That could spell trouble when up against a talented and physical Bluebirds side this week.

Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy kept changes to a minimum in his side’s previous round, the 3-2 home win over Sutton United and, if doing so again, could engineer an upset.

He will want to keep the momentum his side have created so far this term and we are grabbing the decent odds on a home win with both hands in this one.

Brighton ought to trouble Cardiff’s defence, which has kept only one clean sheet this season and conceded twice at home to Football League newcomers Sutton, so we are siding with a 2-1 correct score prediction.
