Cardiff vs Charlton Predictions

  • Charlton are averaging fewer shots per game than any side in the league.
  • Cardiff have won their last three league games.
  • Cardiff have the fourth-best record in the Championship form table.

Two sides in form

These two sides have made perfect restarts to the season, putting them in excellent positions for the final games of the campaign. Cardiff have beaten Leeds and Preston to move into the playoff spots, while victories against Hull and QPR have helped Charlton out of the bottom three.

Charlton are looking to pick up three consecutive Championship victories for the first time since March 2015. That’s nearly as long ago as the last meeting between these two in Cardiff, which came in September 2015. Will the Addicks fall to another loss in Wales, or can they finally make it three wins on the spin?

Charlton are set for fall

The Addicks may be coming off back to back wins, but neither Hull nor QPR had impressed going into those matches. The visitors were able to sustain themselves despite losing top scorer Lyle Taylor ahead of the restart, but we expect their problems to come back to haunt them in the longer-term.

Charlton are averaging just nine shots per game in the Championship this season, fewer than any other side in the division. When Taylor was fit and looking sharp he still could have done something with those chances. However, the Addicks are less clinical without him. Limited on chances and finishers, things aren’t looking good ahead of a difficult test.

Cardiff hunting for playoffs

There are much more encouraging signs for Neil Harris and his men, who have made impressive strides forward of late. With three straight wins behind them, the Welsh side are now holding the final playoff place. To make things even more impressive, the Bluebirds beat Leeds at home before winning at Preston. That has us edging with Cardiff in out predictions, following more impressive displays than Charlton’s two narrow wins.

Charton have the fourth-worst away record in the division, while the hosts are in fine shape. Only three sides have picked up more points in the last eight games than Cardiff. We’re going with a home win, while Charlton’s misfiring, blunt strikeforce has us going with a 2-0 Cardiff victory as our correct score prediction.
