Celta Vigo vs Las Palmas Predictions
The Galicians were also very strong starters last season and would have been certainties for European football had it not been for a terrible mid-season slump when the goals dried up and they picked up just 1 point in 9 games. The fact that they still finished in 8th despite that is testament to how strong they were either side of that run and they’ve taken that confidence into this season.
A 2-1 win at Levante on the opening day was backed up by a convincing 3-0 success at home to Rayo Vallecano last time out with Nolito netting twice. It is though worth mentioning that in both games their opponents were reduced to 10 men within the opening 10 minutes.
They face what should be their easiest game yet at home to relegation favourites Las Palmas here. The Canary Islanders were quite impressive on the opening day going down to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Atletico Madrid. However with the pressure on, they couldn’t deliver 3 points at home to Levante last time out when they were held to a 0-0 draw.
On the basis of the opening weeks, Las Palmas are one of a number of sides in this league that are going to struggle to score goals this season. They haven’t created many chances so far and lack someone like Nolito, who consistently creates openings and scores goals for Celta Vigo.
This isn’t the easiest of places to go when you are a newly promoted side struggling for your first top flight goal in over a decade. Celta could be darkhorses for the top six this season and they look good value to win to nil here at 11/8 against a shot-shy Las Palmas side.
The visitors are quite solid at the back though and having only conceded once in their opening two fixtures, this is unlikely to be a heavy win. Therefore backing it to finish 2-0 to Celta Vigo at 6/1 looks like a sensible bet.
