Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions
- Celtic’s perfect start to the season at home was ended by Dundee United on Sunday.
- Bayer have won six of their eight games this season in all competitions, with one defeat and one draw.
- Florian Wirtz has scored in each of his last five appearances for Leverkusen.
Bayer a bridge too far for Bhoys
Celtic saw their perfect home run halted by Dundee United at the weekend and may now lose their unbeaten record at Parkhead ended by Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Bhoys won their first seven home games of the new campaign at their Glasgow home but were held to a 1-1 draw by the Terrors on Sunday.
Celtic’s form in Europa has been fairly impressive aside from a disappointing exit in Champions League qualification at the hands of Denmark’s Midtjylland. The Scottish giants were unlucky to lose at Real Betis in their Group G opener but this Leverkusen outfit look a further step up in class and the German side arrive in excellent form with six wins in their opening eight games, drawing once and losing once.
Bayer also have a few forwards in excellent form going into this match-up and that could well prove the difference here, as Celtic have scored just one goal in their last two Premiership outings. Czech star Patrick Schick has four goals in his last six games, while 18-year-old German midfielder Florian Wirtz has been lethal lately with a goal in each of his last five appearances for Leverkusen and four assists in his last nine outings for club and country.
A Bayer win looks the best option here and a 3-1 win for the visitors has some appeal in the correct score market as the Bundesliga club have conceded a goal in each of their last three games, while a Wirtz effort stands out for the anytime goalscorer backers.
