Celtic vs Motherwell Predictions

Celtic’s long running 15 match unbeaten streak in 90 minutes came to an end on Wednesday when St Johnstone managed to get a surprise 2-1 win over their visitors to resign them to their first Scottish Premiership defeat since the beginning of February.

They won’t be too disappointed though. Their 3-2 win over Aberdeen recently sealed their 5th consecutive Scottish Premiership title ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers’ return to the top flight. They are without a doubt the unstoppable force in Scottish football at the moment, and I think it will take Rangers a while to get back to a similar level.

Celtic have only won two of their last five outings in all competitions though, losing once and drawing twice, with a penalty defeat to Rangers being included in those draws. They have certainly had a tougher time than usual this season, and it shows by the fact that they haven’t kept a clean sheet in six games now.

Motherwell spend this time last season preparing for a relegation playoff with Rangers after finishing 11th in the Scottish Premiership. They got the win in that tie and remained in the top flight, and this season they have managed to push their way into the top half of the table before the split of the division.

This is thanks to an excellent run of form leading up to the split which saw them win five matches on the bounce, but they come into this match having lost three and won two of their last five games.

Celtic showed their complacency in midweek with their defeat to St Johnstone, and it’s understandable to be fair. That result will give Motherwell a boost though, and the fact that Celtic are without three centre backs will make them think they will at least be able to get on the scoresheet. Motherwell have found the back of the net in 12 matches in a row now and six in a row away from home. They have scored 11 goals in these six games, so they’re not just snatching the odd goal.

The visitors should definitely be able to grab a goal on Sunday, but to think that Celtic won’t score against them would be foolish. Therefore odds of 17/20 for Both Teams to Score are excellent value for money, and I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for Celtic at 8/1.
