Celtic lost 2-0 to Leipzig in Germany last month but how will they fare in this return fixture at Celtic Park?

Since their disappointing defeat at the Red Bull Arena two weeks ago, Celtic have won each of their three games, scoring 13 and conceding none. It has been a purple patch for the Hoops as they have fought their way back into this title race, although few thought they were ever out of it. Two confident victories over the league leaders Hearts have reinforced the vigour in this Celtic side and they will only be looking to go from strength to strength from now on.

Celtic had such a tough proposition after their 2-0 defeat to Leipzig with two clashes with league leaders Hearts on the cards. The Jambos had a pretty good record against Celtic with two wins over the champions in the last 12 months, but the Hoops really turned on the style in these matches. The first in the Betfred Cup semi-final was a second half flurry with three goals coming in 20 minutes as the flood gates well and truly opened at a packed Murrayfield. This match was followed by a 5-0 trouncing of the league’s whipping boys Dundee and then another clash with Hearts, this time in the league.

Hearts had all the time to regroup and plan out this tough game at Celtic Park, but their game plan ended up in the bin after Odsonne Edouard opened the scoring on 18 minutes and started what would turn out to be a 5-0 thrashing of the Jambos. Celtic have been so clinical in front of goal recently but will have to continue this against such a quality Leipzig side.

Leipzig currently sit 4th in the Bundesliga, one point off 2nd, in what has been a great run for them. Since their defeat to RB Salzburg in September, they have gone unbeaten in the ten matches played with 21 goals scored and none conceded in their last 550 minutes of action. They are absolutely a team in form and this dominant defensive record will give them confidence ahead of their journey to the east end of Glasgow.

Like Celtic, they have also been on fire in front of goal and their display at the weekend highlighted that once again. They sank three goals past Hertha Berlin away from home and Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha managed to fully take advantage of his chance in the 1st team. The 19-year-old joined from Sion in the summer and scored his first goal for the club and will now just add to the deadly arsenal of attacking talents they already have on show like Timo Werner, Yussuf Poulsen and Jean-Kevin Augustin. This will be in interesting game as both sides come into it with similar form of many scored while keeping it tight at the back.

Celtic have kept six clean sheets in their last seven home matches and haven’t conceded in any of their last three games. Leipzig have been similarly impressive with 550 minutes’ worth of defensive formidability being on show for their fans recently. The main gripe with this game is that Celtic came into their last match with Leipzig a few weeks ago in slightly similar form and still suffered which makes us think the Germans should be able to hold strong once again here. Leipzig are unbeaten in their last five on the road but have conceded in three of them and we think they will again against this electric Celtic attack. Red Bull managed to score twice against the Hoops in Germany and we think they will manage that again but we’re also going to back Celtic to bag a strike so we’re predicting a 2-1 win for Leipzig.
