Chelsea vs Watford Predictions
Chelsea parted company with Jose Mourinho last week, leaving Guus Hiddink to watch on from the stands as a managerless Chelsea won 3-1 against Sunderland.
The Dutch manager will take charge of his new team for the first time this spell on Saturday as they host Watford, and they come into the match having only won two of their last five matches in all competitions.
This, along with other shocking spells of form this season, leaves the Premier League champions way down in 15th position in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.
This is the sort of position many expected Watford to be in at the start of the season, but the pre season relegation candidates are enjoying their time up in 7th position. They are only one point behind 4th placed Spurs as well thanks to their excellent recent form.
They come into this match having won their last four Premier League games on the bounce, including an excellent performance against Liverpool last weekend which led to a 3-0 victory.
The newly promoted side have kept a clean sheet in three consecutive matches as well, but I don’t think they’ll manage to maintain that run on Boxing Day. The Chelsea players will be determined to make an impression on their new manager to keep themselves on the teamsheet, so I’m expecting them to attack with full force.
Whether Chelsea’s defence can withstand a terrorising from Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, the Premier League’s most lethal striking duo, remains to be seen. I would suggest that they can’t, and this could lead to a really entertaining and goal filled game.
Odds of 4/5 for Over 2.5 Match Goals look really good value as well given the circumstances, and I’m backing this along with a 2-1 Chelsea win at excellent value odds of 15/2.
