Cheltenham vs Newport County Predictions

At the start of the season there will have been many who would have said the clash between Cheltenham Town and Newport County would have been a key fixture in deciding who will be playing their football in the National League next season. However, after a solid start to the campaign, both sides have their heights set higher and this weekend sees the two teams come together to win another three points towards their target.

Cheltenham are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions and will hope to secure back-to-back league wins by beating Newport this weekend. It is not as if they have just been drawing their way through those matches either as they have won four of them, and in impressive fashion too. The Robins have not conceded in each of their last four outings and they have an aggregate scoreline over the previous six matches of 15-4.

Newport’s poor run of four league games without a win came to an end with a solid 2-0 home victory over Colchester United last weekend. It was a welcome relief for the Welshmen as, despite and excellent start to the campaign, County had dropped off the pace and were in danger of dropping out of the promotion picture that they had fought so hard to be part of. The cup competitions provided a welcome relief to Newport County’s troubles as they were able to see off the Metropolitan Police in the FA Cup was followed by a victory over Plymouth Argyle, a double which no doubt provided the confidence they needed to defeat Colchester United last time out.

With both of these sides returning to form, it is likely that both sides will produce a game full of quality. Neither side has been shy in front of goal of late and we think that could result in an open and attacking fixture. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored is the way to go.
