      Chile vs Bolivia Predictions

Chile’s defeat in the opening match of their Copa America defence was somewhat expected and won’t worry them too much, but it’s still a disappointment to kick their campaign off with a defeat.

Argentina lined up without Lionel Messi or Sergio Aguero on the pitch, but they seemed almost unaffected by their absences as they went at Chile. It took until after the break for Argentina to find a goal though, with an emotional Angel Di Maria scoring the opener eight minutes before Ever Banega added a second. The 93rd minute saw Jose Fuenzalida bag a goal for Chile but their chances of finishing top of their group have taken a huge hit now.

Chile do have the ability and quality to easily qualify from their group though. The match against Argentina was undoubtedly their toughest test, and matches against Bolivia and Panama are both very winnable. However, the cup holders are in poor form at the moment after losing five of their last six games and winning just one of their last seven.

To be fair these defeats have largely come against very good opponents, with Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico all beating them. The only worrying result was a 2-1 loss at home to Jamaica.

Bolivia shouldn’t prove too much of an issue to them though. They are shockingly poor outside of their home country and this showed again as they lost to Copa America debutants Panama in their opener on Tuesday. Panama striker Blas Perez opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game but had his goal cancelled out ten minutes after the break when Bolivia’s only real threat, Juan Arce, netted the equaliser. It came to Perez to put Panama in front again with a dramatic 93rd minute winner.

This made it five defeats on the trot for Bolivia and ten defeats from their last 11 games. Away from La Paz it’s even worse for them though, with just one victory in the last nine years and seven defeats on the trot, including a 5-0 hammering from Chile.

Chile will be in the mood to take the game to Bolivia in this one. Goal difference can play a big part in these competitions and Chile have the opportunity to boost theirs here. They have scored three or more goals in five of their last 15 games against much stronger opposition and Bolivia have conceded more than two in five of their last 11 games. Chile have netted three or more in three of their last five matches against Bolivia as well, so Chile Over 2.5 Team Goals looks good at 19/20. I’m backing a 4-0 correct score prediction at 17/2 as well.
