Chivas Guadalajara vs Tijuana Predictions
Sunday’s Liga MX Clausura action sees Chivas and Tijuana doing battle. The hosts will be looking to kick off the second half of the campaign well by claiming all 3 points in front of their own fans.
Traditionally one of Mexico’s biggest clubs, Chivas have been underachieving for quite some time now, failing to qualify for the play-offs in each of the last 3 phases of Liga MX action. In the Apertura phase of the current campaign, the side finished 11th and 6 points short of the top 8, meaning big improvement is needed over the Clausura, starting in this match on Sunday.
In an attempt to put themselves back towards the top, Chivas have been very active in the transfer market over the mid-season break, strengthening significantly by signing the likes of Hiram Mier, Dieter Villalpando, Jesús Molina, Tony Alfaro, Alexis Vega and Luis Madrigal. As such, there’s a real sense of expectation around the team at the moment but they cannot afford to get off to a slow start, making this a very important match.
Meanwhile, Tijuana arrive low on confidence after a terrible showing in the opening phase. The visitors were one of the poorest sides in the division over the first half of the season, finishing fourth bottom after only securing a palty 17 points from as many games.
Having taken just 2 points from their last 7 league matches, confidence in Tijuana ranks is at rock bottom and the team certainly don’t start the Clausura with a great deal of momentum behind them. Also having lost 7 of their last 9 Liga MX away matches, the visitors’ prospects do not look bright ahead of travelling to the Estadio AKRON.
Ultimately, we and most people connected with the Mexican game are anticipating a far stronger Chivas side over the coming months and they’ll be itching to kick things off with a win here. Boss Jose Cardozo will quickly find himself out of a job if results don’t come soon, given the investment that’s been made in the playing squad, but the team now looks ready to perform and is a stronger one on paper.
As such, with Tijuana in poor condition and notoriously weak on their travels, backing a Chivas win in this fixture looks to provide good value and is exactly where our money is going. Tijuana have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 away games, whilst conceding an average of 2.25 goals a game across said fixtures and we can only envisage their struggles continuing in a 2-0 defeat.
