Colchester vs Stevenage Predictions
In football the festive season sees games coming thick and fast, so it is vital that teams continue any momentum if they are going to keep pace with their competitors. This Boxing Day sees two sides who are hunting for promotion meet as high flying Colchester United welcome play-off hopefuls Stevenage in a clash which will have large implications at the top of the table.
Colchester United provided a perfect response to their defeat at Carlisle by becoming the first side to win at promotion rivals MK Dons. The U’s have flown under the radar to a large extent for much of the campaign and even though they are still several points off the top two, victory over the MK Dons last weekend showed that they are far from out of the depth in the race for the League Two title.
Stevenage were beaten 3-1 at home by promotion chasing Mansfield Town on Saturday and have taken just one point from their last four games. After one win in their last five, Dino Maamria’s men will look to give Boro fans the best Christmas present they could have asked for with a win away in Essex. Currently sitting in 12th, Stevenage have somewhat fallen away from the play-off pack in recent weeks, however still find themselves just four points from 7th. Boro have picked up twelve points away from home this season, with three wins and three draws, the most recent away trip being a respectable 1-1 at Northampton two weekends ago.
The hosts go into this match as the favourites to claim the win, and it is a title which we think that they deserve. They have an excellent record in the head to head between these two sides, they have one of the best home records in the division and they come into this match high in confidence after the weekend’s result. With this in mind, we think that backing a home win in this fixture is the way to go.
