Colchester vs Wigan Predictions
- Both teams have scored in Wigan’s last five away games.
- Both teams have scored in Colchester’s last five home league games.
- Both teams have scored in Colchester’s last three matches.
Wigan’s away form will be tested by U’s
Wigan’s brilliant away record will be put to the test in Sunday’s FA Cup second round tie by a Colchester City side that have proven capable of upsetting the odds recently.
The U’s stunned in-form Exeter City at JobServe Community Stadium last month with a 3-1 win that halted the Grecians; 16-game unbeaten run.
Hayden Mullins’ side have not lost in either game since, suggesting a sustained change in form could be on the cards.
After failing to score in six of their first ten League Two games, Colchester seem to be a more potent team now. Mullins’ side have hit nine in their last eight league games so there’s some confidence that they can find the back of the net against the increasingly leaky Latics.
One clean sheet in five is a sign the Latics are loosening
Wigan still have sound defensive numbers to go with the second-best away record in all the Football League. However, Leam Richardson’s side are not quite as watertight as they used to be. Wigan’s only clean sheet in their last five league and FA Cup contests came against non-league Solihull Moors in the previous round.
Both teams to score therefore looks to have a good chance on Sunday, particularly as it would have landed in Colchester’s last three and Wigan’s last five away trips. A 2-1 Latics win is just favoured in correct score betting because of the prolonged away form they have shown this season.
