Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in Cologne’s last five home Bundesliga games and also in two of Hertha’s last three away league matches. The visitors are not big scorers, but have improved defensively, shipping only twice away to Bayern Munich last time they were on the road.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Cologne have failed to win their last five at home, scoring only once across those games, while Hertha have not won away in the league since September. The visitors could hold out for a 1-1 draw after showing defensive improvement in their last two games.

Cologne vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

  • Cologne have failed to win their last five at home and Hertha have not won away in the league since September.

A Post-derby hangover could cost Cologne

Cologne could suffer a post-derby hangover when they entertain basement club Hertha at RheinEnergieStadion on Friday. Effzeh enjoyed a satisfying win at local rivals Bayer Leverkusen last Friday to confirm their top-flight status for another season and end the hosts’ 14-game unbeaten run.

It took a herculean effort, highlighted by the club’s twitter account stating coach Steffen Baumgart had awarded the players an extra day off after they had run a collective 129km at BayArena.

This game might be a case of after the Lord Mayor’s parade for Cologne, who have much less at stake than relegation-threatened Hertha.

Home goals have been scarce for the Billy Goats

The Old Lady gave their survival chances a shot in the arm with a 2-1 win over Stuttgart on Saturday, but still remain three points adrift of the two clubs above them.

Pal Dardai’s side have not been able to string two wins together all campaign long, but this match is a chance to take something given Cologne’s rocky home form. The Billy Goats have failed to win their last five in front of their home fans, including a 2-0 defeat to 17th-placed Bochum.

Goals have also been scarce for Cologne, who have scored just once in that run of five without success at home. Hence, the main recommendation is to take under 2.5 goals as Hertha, who have improved defensively in recent weeks, are not in the habit of scoring multiple goals on the road.
