      Colombia vs Paraguay Predictions

Colombia made the perfect start to the Copa America as they opened the scoring against host nation United States just eight minutes into play. Christian Zapata volleyed home his first goal for Colombia, and James Rodriguez doubled their advantage just before half time with a spot kick. The Colombians settled for the 2-0 scoreline and saw the match out to hugely boost their chances of finishing top of their group.#

This victory made it four wins in a row for Colombia, and a 5th on Wednesday morning could all but seal the top spot in the group depending on the result of the United States vs Costa Rica game earlier in the morning.

Paraguay’s game was slightly more dull and both them and Costa Rica failed to threaten each other with any regularity whatsoever. There were just eight shots on goal in the entire game and it predictably ended goalless.

This result made if four games without a win for Paraguay and they have won just one of their last seven, a run of results which leaves them down in 7th in the South American World Cup qualifying with nine points from their opening six games.

Paraguay struggle going forward at the best of times, and they showed that against Costa Rica, so trying to break free of Colombia pressure might be a big struggle for them. Their defence is undoubtedly solid, but they only had to deal with the likes of Joel Campbell in their opener and are now faced with the prospect of holding off Carlos Bacca, Juan Cuadrado, and most notably James Rodriguez, if he’s fit enough to play.

The Colombians have now scored 11 goals in their last four games and whilst it will be difficult they will feel confident in their ability to grab a goal against Paraguay. I can’t see Paraguay getting on the scoresheet either, unless Juan Iturbe or Derlis Gonzalez produce a moment of magic. This makes odds of 3/4 for a Colombia Win look very good value to me, so I’m going for that along with another 2-0 correct score prediction at 13/2.
