Corinthians vs Millionarios Predictions
Friday’s Copa Libertadores action sees Brazilians Corinthians playing host to Colombians Millonarios. Despite a difficult week, the hosts are expected to pick up the three points,
It’s been a devastating couple of days for everyone connected with Corinthians, after hugely popular boss Fabio Carille left his post to take up a lucrative position in Saudi Arabia. Carille had transformed Timao into a dominant force, winning two editions of the Campeonato Paulista as well as lifting Serie A in dominant fashion last season.
The side had been looking very strong under Carille once again this year and thus, they find themselves through to the last 16 of the Libertadores no matter what the result is in this one. Nonetheless, caretaker boss Osmar Loss and his troops will be desperate to pick up the win, not only to raise spirits but to ensure the side finish as high as possible in the seeding for the knockout stages. Currently on 10 points after a dominant 7-2 win at Venezuelans Lara last week, confidence is still high in the camp, despite the boss’ exit and those that take to the field will be hungry to prove they can still be the same side in his absence.
Meanwhile, Millonarios failed to win their home game with Independiente last week, despite dominating most of it and have now left themselves with a huge task as regards saying in the competition. Currently sitting on just 5 points, Miguel Angel Russo’s men know that anything but a win in this fixture would leave them eliminated.
That’s not something that looks likely at all in all honesty, considering El Azul have a truly awful away record, both in 2018 and historically on the big stage. The Colombians have lost both of their games on the road in the group so far; contributing to two miserable streaks that read 9 defeats from the last 11 away games overall, as well 6 straight defeats on the road in the Libertadores.
Ultimately, there can be little doubting who arrives as huge favourites and we’re more than happy to back Corinthians to win the match with full confidence. Were Carille still in the dugout, the price on the home win would be far shorter but as it currently is, we see great value in getting behind the hosts.
The Brazilians have plenty to play for and motivation is high to achieve victory. Up against a Millonarios outfit that has shown no resolve whatsoever on the road, the hosts should face few obstacles in sending the home crowd home happy, with a 1-0 margin of victory on the cards, a result that would make it 11 wins from 15 at home for Corinthians.
Corinthians possible starting XI: Walter; Guilherme Mantuan, Balbuena, Henrique, Sidcley; Gabriel, Maycon; Pedrinho, Jadson, Rodriguinho; Romero.
Millonarios possible starting XI: Fariñez; Palacios, Figueroa, Cadavid, Banguero; de los Santos, Duque; Salazar, Valencia, Rojas, Del Valle.
