Corinthians vs Vasco Da Gama Predictions
Saturday’s crunch Brazilian Serie A action sees Corinthians doing battle with Vasco da Gama. With both teams desperate to stave off the threat of relegation, plenty of action is expected at both ends of the pitch.
Corinthians’ 1-0 defeat away to Cruzeiro in midweek plunged the team into further trouble and meant they had to make the trip home flanked by a huge security team, with fans now reaching boiling point. Last season’s champions have put in a simply terrible campaign and just 3 points above the drop zone at the time of writing with 4 games left to play, they find themselves in a perilous position.
Whilst it became clear early on that Timao were not going to retain their Serie A crown, few could have imagined their situation deteriorating this badly but just 1 point from the last available 9 and 1 league win from the last 9 matches has spirits very low in home ranks. Nonetheless, with this match having been described as a war by the Corinthians camp in the build-up to it, motivation is high and those taking to the pitch will be desperate to finally secure a positive result.
Meanwhile, visitors Vasco do not take to the field with their own picture looking any prettier. Almirante looked set to secure a priceless set of 3 points in midweek as they lead Atletico PR 1-0, but a 95th minute equaliser denied them and they now remain with pressure well and truly on, just 2 points clear of danger.
Nonetheless, as volatile as this year has been for Vasco, they find themselves in better form than their opponents do here and they’ll be hopeful of salvaging their top flight lives. Just 2 defeats from the last 11 outings ranks as fairly good going for the visitors, but now travelling to go up against a hostile home crowd, just 1 win on the road all season will not have confidence particularly high.
Ultimately, this is a game of huge significance and there’s a great deal riding on it for both outfits. Any victor would be all but assured of a place in Serie A next season, whilst the loser would find themselves in a great deal of trouble.
With both teams set to chase the 3 points, there’s only one market that appeals as far as the betting goes and that’s for both nets to be hit. 8 of Corinthians’ last 9 home games have seen goals at both ends, as have 6 of Vasco’s last 8 away games and with 4 of the last 5 meetings between the two also featuring both sides scoring, neither sequence looks like coming to an end.
As for the result itself, on home soil we fancy Corinthians to edge it. They’ve won their last 4 games against Vasco and we envisage them prolonging that streak via a 2-1 margin of victory.
