Coventry vs Southampton Predictions

  • Coventry have reeled off six Championship wins in a row
  • Southampton have lost five and drawn three of their last eight matches against top seven Championship sides
  • Haji Wright has scored six goals in his last five league appearances

Sky Blues unlikely to slip up

Coventry City will look to take another decisive step toward the Championship title when they host in‑form Southampton on Saturday. The Sky Blues extended their lead at the top to eight points with a dominant 3-0 win over Preston North End in midweek, a performance that underlined why they have scored 14 goals in their last six outings.

Lampard’s side dictated the tempo, created chances at will and barely needed to get out of second gear, even with Jack Rudoni sidelined and top scorer Haji Wright rested.

Southampton arrive unbeaten in nine league games and full of belief after collecting 13 points from an unbeaten February, including their extraordinary 4-3 comeback win over Leicester.

Wright can do no wrong

But Eckert’s side looked shaky at the back against West Brom, with Daniel Peretz forced into five saves, and injuries to Leo Scienza and Ross Stewart further weaken their attacking threat.

It is also worth noting that Saints have not faced a team that started the day in the Championship’s top seven during their current streak and they have tended to struggle against better-placed sides this season. They have lost five and drawn three of their last eight clashes with clubs inside the top seven.

Coventry’s momentum makes them the clear favourites to take another step toward the title on Saturday with Wright, who has six goals in his last five, the top pick to find the back of the net  against a Saints defence that has kept just one clean sheet in five.
