Germany looking like strong challengers

Germany are disputing favouritism for the European U21 Championship with Spain and there were strong signs in their 3-0 opening win over Slovenia that they could be going all the way.

Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, who scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga season that has just finished, notched a hat-trick in that opening success and a 16-match unbeaten run should be putting the fear up their rivals as they go for continental glory in Slovakia this summer.

They face England in what could prove a group decider on Wednesday, but they are unlikely to take things easy against the Czechs and we could see a few goals.

Czechs can still make their mark

For all Germany’s strong recent results, the Czechs will have to be positive as a defeat would effectively put them out of the tournament.

So we can expect them to push forward and as they pushed another of the leading lights, Spain, to a 2-2 draw in a March friendly, they can at least find the net against a team who have conceded in six of their last nine games.
