Darmstadt vs Bayern Munich Predictions
Darmstadt’s woes continued as a 1-0 defeat away to Freiburg marked their 6th successive Bundesliga defeat – their 7th consecutive when including the embarrassing 1-0 defeat away to German fourth tier side Astoria Walldorf in the DFB Pokal. Darmstadt showed marginal signs of improvement in their first outing under interim coach Ramon Berndroth, however, the Lilies have a tough set of Bundesliga fixtures, starting with reigning champions Bayern Munich, which could well determine their Bundesliga survival before even half the season is done.
Bayern Munich enjoyed a perfect weekend as their 5-0 thrashing at home to Wolfsburg saw Thomas Muller break his Bundesliga duck – Muller was exactly 999 minutes without a goal – and the Bavarians reclaim the top spot as the (then) league leaders RB Leipzig lost in their match away to bottom of the table Ingolstadt. Thomas Muller stands a decent chance to keep the momentum going here against the hugely out of form Darmstadt and would be our choice for an anytime goalscorer bet here at 5/6. Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski has taken a brace in each of his last two Bundesliga outings and has scored as many goals this season (11) as the entire Darmstadt squad. He’s also decent value to score two or more at 7/5.
Most would agree that this match should be fairly straight forward. Darmstadt may be at huge odds of 18/1, but even that isn’t a temptation after seeing Munich last weekend. Though Bayern Munich are the obvious choice and too short to be a worthwhile bet at 1/8, we feel that Bayern Munich -2 Asian Handicap at 3/5 is a solid bet in terms of balancing value and safety. Darmstadt have lost to nil in all of their last three home matches against weaker opponents (Leipzig, Hamburg and Ingolstadt) so we feel it’s reasonable to assume that Bayern Munich can replicate such a feat here. Bayern Munich have also scored two or more goals in four of their six Bundesliga matches (66%) on the road so far and their 5-0 thrashing should indicate their resurgent goal-scoring form.
Regarding a correct score bet, we are pitting the Bundesliga’s strongest attack (Bayern Munich with 34 goals) against its joint-weakest attack (Darmstadt with 11 goals). Munich’s consistent 3 goal per match average warrants 3-0 at 5/1 to be a reasonable shout here.
