DC United vs Chicago Fire Predictions

DC United’s recent away struggles continued at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a New England Revolution side that lies down in 11th place in the MLS Eastern Conference, and while this did make it three games without a win, the Eastern Conference leaders will be feeling better about their chances here.

That’s because they return to the Audi Field for the first time in four matches, and it’s undoubtedly their home form that has got them to where they are today. The hosts find themselves a point clear of Philadelphia Union at the top of the Eastern Conference, although their top spot rivals do have a game in hand.

Not only that, but the Eastern side of the US isn’t showing quite as much promise as those on the west coast. Los Angeles FC lead the overall MLS table with a nine point cushion over DC United, while 2nd place Seattle Sounders also have a point more than the Eastern Conference pacesetters.

DC United’s home form, while impressive, hasn’t been without it’s flaws this season. They have won four, drawn one, and lost two of their seven home games this season, but they will be expecting to add a fifth scalp to their list here.

Chicago Fire haven’t been terrible this season, losing just three of their last 11 MLS matches and find themselves only two points shy of the playoff spots. However, as it usually is with Chicago Fire, their away form is letting them down. They famously went over two years without winning a single MLS away day, and during that spell won just one match between July 2014 and May 2017.

They haven’t quite hit that point yet, but their last away win in the league was slightly over a year ago now. This season they have drawn two and lost four of their six matches, and since their last away win they have drawn five and lost 13.

All things considered, we’re expecting DC United to pile the misery of Chicago Fire’s travelling fans. With the visitors in such disarray on the road, backing a DC United Win along with a 1-0 correct score prediction looks the best option.
