Denmark vs Faroe Islands Predictions
- Denmark have never scored more than four goals against Faroe Islands.
- Denmark have already qualified and can experiment with their line-up on Friday.
Danes could go easy on Faroes
Denmark have swept all before them in Group G to already claim their qualifying berth for Qatar 2022, but their least impressive result on paper was the 1-0 win in Torshavn last September. Kasper Hjulmand’s side needed an 85th minute winner from Jonas Wind to secure all three points in a game in which they had 80% possession, 23 shots and an xG of approximately three.
An autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Faroe Islands have a cosy relationship with their hosts for Friday’s World Cup qualifier – both on and off the field. The Danes have never scored more than four times against the Faroes, despite leading 4-0 at half-time in their most recent home meeting, leading us to conclude that they may not push for a landslide victory on Friday.
Hjulmand’s side to stay perfect
Hjulmand’s side will still want to sign off in their last home qualifier with a win that maintains their 100% record and they have enough quality in the squad to get it done even with a handful of first-choice players rested.
The Faroes’ average margin of defeat in away qualifiers over their last two World Cup programs is exactly two goals – so even if Denmark keep up to that level of performance it should leave plenty of scope for backing them to win with not to many goals in the game.
The odds about the Danes winning with under 4.5 goals look fair enough given the hosts’ relative lack of motivation to grab a hatful on Friday, although we still believe as many as four could be on offer for them if they want to entertain the Parken crowd without rubbing the Faroes’ noses in it.
