      Derby vs Brentford Predictions

It has been a busy few months at Brentford and it has not been a period that has reflected well on the owners or their statistical approach to running a football club which had been working nicely. The decision to replace Mark Warburton who was clearly very popular with the Brentford dressing room and brilliantly guided the side to a surprise top six finish last year was odd enough.

More than that it set the bar of expectation incredibly high for whoever was going to replace him and in his brief stint in charge Dutch boss Marinus Dijkhuizen didn’t come close to matching it. With the club languishing in the bottom six and the clearly trigger happy owners not the type to mess around it was perhaps no surprise to see Dijkhuizen depart early this week even without rumours that he had failed to build up a rapport with his playing staff.

The timing was poor though coming just hours before the Bees entertained Birmingham in the Championship. Lee Carsley wouldn’t have had much time to prepare his troops for the game and they lost again at home following on from a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. Carsley might generate some sort of a response here but it is just very hard to see them having enough about them to come and cause Derby too many problems.

The Rams have taken 10 points from their last 4 Championship games which includes 3 excellent away wins. They have started to be a bit more clinical in the final third and against a Brentford side who have the 2nd worst defence in the league having conceded 17 goals already, they should get plenty of opportunities to further display their progress in that regard.

A relatively comfortable home win is the likely result so consider backing Derby -1.0 in the Asian Handicap market at 2.15.

Brentford’s players will be keen to impress their new boss though and won’t stop fighting even if they go behind. However against a Derby side who will look to control the ball and have the 2nd best defence in the league, they are unlikely to get many chances.

Therefore a solid 2-0 Derby win looks like the smart bet here and can be backed at 15/2.
