      Derby vs Charlton Predictions

It hasn’t been a dream start for the man who comes with a big reputation but no experience as a manager. The former PSG and Real Madrid coach was scathing of his side’s performance in midweek as they exited the Capital One Cup at the hands of League 2 Portsmouth and there could be a reaction on Saturday from a side that clearly is capable of a lot better. They had lots of possession but lacked much cutting edge in the final third on the South Coast on Wednesday.

With some of the talent in the squad that is likely to come but they are some way off their best at the moment and losing creative midfielder Will Hughes to a serious injury this week has come as a serious blow. Their style of play looks to be a bit different under Clement and they opened up the Championship with a goalless draw at Bolton so perhaps it could be a slightly more cautious approach from the man who has been learning his trade under Carlo Ancelotti.

Their opponents Charlton have made an excellent start to the season but will surely be content with a point here. New boss Guy Luzon has won his first two games with an impressive 2-0 win over QPR coming on the opening day. They followed that up with another home win over Dagenham in the Capital One Cup but they are like to adopt a more negative approach in this game so it is unlikely to be a high scoring one.

Derby may take some time to hit their best form and to some extent are still coming to terms with their capitulation at the end of last season which saw them fail to secure a play-off place having threatened the top two for most of the season.

However there is more quality in the County ranks than in those of the visitors and they are likely to again dominate the ball here. In front of an expectant Pride Park crowd, Derby are likely to nick this one although with quite a few new signings still trying to fit in, they may take some time to get into their flow.

The Rams have won 4 of their last 5 meetings with Charlton and all of the last three meetings at Pride Park have ended with Derby winning to nil. The last two clashes between the sides were both in the East Midlands and ended in 1-0 and 2-0 Derby wins.

A similar result could well be on the cards here so there is excellent value in backing Derby to win but there to be under 2.5 goals at 11/4.
