Palace to fall short in Istanbul

Crystal Palace slipped to a 3-2 loss at Lyon in the last round of Europa League games and could come unstuck again when they face Besiktas in Istanbul on Thursday.

Besiktas have enjoyed a strong start to their own European campaign as they thrashed Marseille 4-1 in Turkey before seeing off Hoffenheim 3-2 away from home. The Turkish giants do have a quick turnaround for this fixture as they play Trabzonspor on Monday, but Palace should also come into the game fairly jaded after a 5-0 hammering at rivals Brighton on Sunday.

The Eagles are in the midst of a rough patch after back-to-back losses and look set for another defeat against a Besiktas side who seem capable of making a real impact in Europe this season.

Clean sheets have been hard to come by for Besiktas as they have just one in their last nine games across all competitions. Palace have scored six goals across their two European games so this has the potential to be a high-scoring affair and a bold play on a 3-2 home win is the correct score pick. Over 3.5 goals has landed in all four of the league phase games and that pattern could continue here, but Besiktas are the form team and with home advantage they can come out on top.

Besiktas fullback Michael Murillo has scored in both league phase games so far and stands out as a bit of an outside contender for an anytime effort against the Eagles.
