Rams’ form more relevant than Blades’ after lengthy break 

Sheffield United return to league action after a 26-day break when they travel to Derby to take on Wayne Rooney’s resurgent Rams on Saturday. The Blades face a major fixture pile-up after having so many games called off and will need to make best use of greater freshness they have than their opponents.

Derby have played three league games since their visitors were last in Championship action and have taken seven points from them. A solid home victory over promotion-chasing West Brom was followed up by another good display in winning at playoff contenders Stoke and the Rams’ never-say-die spirit earned them an away point at Reading too.

So, although Paul Heckingbotham’s men will arrive at Pride Park on the back of a four-game win streak in the league, the Rams’ form may actually be more relevant.

Derby have won four and drawn three of their nine home games against teams that currently sit above Sheffield United in the table, which makes us think that the Blades are a touch too short in the match result market.

The Rams look backable to avoid defeat here, but the odds are better for both teams to score and the stats align to that bet quite nicely. Both teams have scored in four of the last six Derby County home games and in five of the last seven away Championship fixtures featuring the Blades, so we will take our chances at a shade under even money.

As a correct score play, we’re edging towards a 2-1 away win because two of Derby’s last five home results have finished that way and the Blades’ may have the advantage of being fresher for this contest.
