Candystripes can’t count on Bohs’ generosity again
Derry City will look to extend their five-match unbeaten run at home to Bohemians on Friday night.
The mid-season break came at a bad time for the Candystripes, who had moved from the foot of the table to within five points of a European slot on the back of a run of one defeat in eight.
But the new manager bounce they enjoyed under former player Ruaidhrí Higgins could come to an end at home to a Bohemians side that have won four of their last five.
Derry City beat Bohs in Dublin in Higgins’ second game in charge, but they were fortunate to do so.
The hosts missed a tap-in and a one-on-one chance on a night when they also found Candystripes keeper Nathan Gartside in top form.
And Bohs will surely learn not to allow big Derry defender Cameron McJannet the freedom of their penalty area again after he punished them twice at Dalymount Park.
Bohemians’ away form is nothing special, with their only wins coming against the Premier Division’s bottom two, so we won’t be recommending any support for the visitors.
A much safer play here looks to be backing both teams to score with the stats aligning nicely to that bet.
Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten Derry City matches and Higgins is yet to see his side earn a clean sheet at home since he took charge.
Likewise, Bohemians have scored in all six Premier Division away games this season and this game has the look of a 1-1 draw – a scoreline which has occurred in three of the last five Candystripes home clashes.
