Everton to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Everton may not have the best record in the League Cup but in more recent times, they’ve tended to avoid being the victims of cup upsets. A makeshift Toffees team should prove too strong for League Two’s bottom side with Doncaster making too many mistakes to keep their top flight opponents at bay.

Everton 2-0

Reason for tip

Everton have been creating chances but failing to score this season and their attack looks unlikely to explode into life, even against lowly Doncaster. Rovers will be eager to keep the scoreline respectable and can manage just that.

Doncaster vs Everton Predictions

  • Everton have progressed from eight of their last 12 away ties in the League Cup
  • Doncaster are bottom of League Two after four defeats in five games
  • Five of Everton’s last six games have gone under 3.5 goals

Dire duo unlikely to put on cup cracker

Everton and Doncaster go into Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie propping up their respective divisions after dreadful starts to the season, possessing one win and four goals between them.

The goals all belong to Rovers, as does the win with Grant McCann’s men knocking out Championship side Hull City in the last round of this competition.

Either side of that success have been some desperate league performances with Doncaster losing four of their first five games, shipping 12 goals in the process.

Injuries to as many as ten players have hindered McCann’s side but the boss declared himself pleased with a battling 2-1 loss to League Two leaders MK Dons at the weekend.

Everton should end goal drought

While there may be signs of life at Doncaster, opponents Everton are enduring their worst start to a season in the club’s 145-year history.

For the first time ever, the Toffees have lost and failed to score in their first three games of a season, and won’t relish the trip to South Yorkshire.

Everton’s all-time record in the League Cup makes for grim reading, the Merseysiders falling at the first hurdle nine times previously, but they should avoid a slip-up here.

More recently, Everton’s record against lower league opponents in this competition has been solid and Doncaster make too many mistakes defensively for Sean Dyche’s men, who have been creating chances, not to take advantage at least once or twice.

A mix-and-match Toffees team is unlikely to break Everton’s goal drought with a flurry and pairing an away win with under 3.5 goals, which has landed in 13 of Dyche’s 21 games in charge, at odds-against is a strong option.
