Defences set to dominate Dundalk-Derry clash

Friday’s Premier Division clash between Dundalk and Derry City looks unlikely to feature too many goals based on each side’s recent records.

The rock-bottom Lilywhites have won only one of their lats five matches, but that was at home where their results have been much better.

Dundalk have won two and drawn four of their last half dozen Premier Division games at Oriel Park and kept clean sheets in all six, which makes them an intriguing bet at around 7/2 to pick up all three points against the Candystripes.

Lilywhites can keep it clean to make a point

Ruiadhri Higgins’ side have picked up only two wins in nine attempts away from home this term, but both of those have come in the last month. They were not that impressive in their 1-0 victory at St Patrick’s Athletic, however, in a game with very little goalmouth action.

Derry City have kept this tight on the road too with only one goal conceded in their last four trips, so the goal expectation will be very low for this clash of disciplined defences.

In a low-scoring game, it can prove profitable to lean towards the underdog and Dundalk’s home form certainly makes them backable in the double chance market with a goalless game perhaps their best chance of taking something from the clash.
