      Ecuador vs Honduras Predictions

This game will be played at the altitude of the Ecuadorian capital Quito, which represents something of a fortress for the Ecuador national side. The likes of Brazil and Argentina frequently come unstuck here so there is no reason to think Ecuador won’t be able to brush Honduras aside.

It wasn’t a great Copa America for the South Americans, who paid the price for an awful first 45 minutes against Bolivia when they conceded 3 goals to leave them with a mountain to climb to reach the last eight. They fought back well in the 2nd half but still lost 3-2 and beat Mexico in their final game but it wasn’t enough to see them progress.

Therefore they will have something of a point to prove on Tuesday and will be keen for a confidence boosting win ahead of 4 World Cup qualifiers prior to the end of the year.

It is 6 years since they lost in Quito and they won 7 of their 8 home World Cup qualifiers last time around. Ecuador often play their friendlies in the United States or Europe but this seems like a deliberate attempt to re-familiarise their players with the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa before Bolivia and Uruguay visit in the next two months for World Cup qualifiers in what will be an ultra competitive qualifying procedure.

Therefore you can certainly see Ecuador, who have named a strong squad, winning the match at what is one of the toughest places to go in international football. You can back them to do so at 8/11 which is good value given Honduras aren’t a great side.

The Central Americans failed to make it out of their CONCACAF Gold Cup group in July after just picking up 1 point and losing to minnows Haiti in their final game. They may have picked up a surprising win against Venezuela on Friday but this is another step up in class for a side that had only won 4 of their previous 27 matches, all of which were against weak sides from their own region.

Therefore Ecuador, who were unfortunate to go out in the groups at last year’s World Cup having picked up 4 points, should be able to win by a reasonable margin and given that Honduras aren’t prolific goalscorers by any means, a 2-0 home win looks good value here at 6/1.
