Motherwell To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Motherwell boasted the third-best away record in last season’s Premiership and ended the campaign on a six-match unbeaten away run that included wins to nil against Ross County and St Johnstone.  They should have too much for fourth tier Elgin.

Motherwell 3-0

Reason for tip

Motherwell finished 34 places above Elgin in the pyramid last season and that gulf in class should be reflected in the scoreline, especially when you consider the hosts lost eight of their 18 home matches in Scottish League two last term.

Elgin vs Motherwell Predictions

  • Elgin finished second-bottom of Scottish League Two last season
  • The hosts have lost four of their five matches during pre-season
  • Motherwell boasted the third-best away record in last season’s Premiership

No dramas expected for Motherwell

Motherwell reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup last season and they will expect to make a winning start to this year’s campaign when they visit fourth-tier Elgin, who finished 34 places below them in the pyramid last term.

Stuart Kettlewell’s Premiership outfit were good on the road last season, as only Celtic and Rangers picked up more away points in the top flight during 2022/23, while they ended the campaign on a six-match unbeaten run on their travels.

That run included wins to nil at both Ross County and St Johnstone, while they have also won three of their four pre-season matches without conceding.

Elgin unlikely to cause a stir

Elgin ended last season just a point and place off the bottom of the SPFL and they also conceded the most goals of any side in the fourth tier.

Ross Draper will be hoping his side can enjoy a much better campaign this time around, but the omens have not been good during pre-season, as they have lost four of their five games.

After suffering defeats in eight of their 18 home matches in Scottish League Two last season, another loss could be on the cards for Elgin, and given the quality of their opposition, the defeat could be a comprehensive one.
