Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in each of Torino’s last three matches.
  • Empoli have seen goals at both ends in their last two games, both of which contained five goals.
  • Torino were involved in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Atalanta last time out.

Goals likely in late-season dead rubber

Sunday’s clash between Empoli and Torino will not prove decisive for the Serie A table in any way, with Aurelio Andreazzoli’s men sitting 14th and Il Toro 11th, and both either unable or unlikely to breach the top half. However, this mid-table meeting could provide viewers with entertainment, at least if last week’s results are anything to go by.

Despite recently enduring a four-month winless run in Serie A, Andreazzoli’s men have impressed by securing survival with an intense, high-pressing game which has seen them concede 62 goals in Serie A (only Salernitana have shipped more) but score 45 of their own. Their last two games have seen them lose 4-1 to Udinese and finally claim a much-awaited victory with an incredible 3-2 comeback win over Napoli, so they look to back to their entertaining selves.

Torino, on the other hand, had built a reputation for defensive solidity this season, but saw that go out of the window in an incredible 4-4 draw with Atalanta last time out. Both teams have now scored in each of Torino’s last three matches, and they could be involved in another entertaining contest on Sunday.

Back both teams to net after last week’s thrillers

With Empoli and Torino having nothing substantial to play for in the season’s closing weeks, backing them to continue their goalscoring form in a match which features goals at both ends could be a smart play.

Considering Empoli have just one win since December and Torino have won just two of their last 13 matches, it makes sense to avoid the win markets, but correct score punters could find value in a repeat of the two sides’ 2-2 draw in December.
