Wayne Rooney equalled Bobby Charlton’s England goal-scoring record against San Marino on Saturday. It was slightly surprising that Roy Hodgson didn’t leave him on against the minnows and it means that much of the pre-match build up will be around the possibility of Rooney scoring number 50 against Switzerland.

England have all but qualified for Euro 2016, but the game against Switzerland perhaps represents their last serious competitive challenge ahead of the summer tournament. Two second half goals from Danny Welbeck earned England an away victory earlier in qualifying, but it’s fair to say that the Swiss have probably played a little better since then.

Switzerland’s biggest match-up probably came on Saturday when they shifted the entire face of their qualifying campaign by battling back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. The comeback was made even more remarkable by the fact that it was only started in the 80th minute.

Their final two games are against San Marino and Estonia, which should give them enough points to lock down second place in Group E. It’ll be interesting to see if there are any line-up changes after substitutes Drmic and Stocker did the damage against Slovenia.

      Three Reasons for Betting Tips

      1. Don’t read too much into Slovenia win

Switzerland controlled the football and the run of play against Slovenia, but the reality is that they only discovered some desperate potency in the final 10 minutes of the game. They deserved their breakthrough and were the better side, but those 10 minutes don’t damage our conviction that this team isn’t that potent. Their away form has been mediocre besides a 4-0 win against San Marino

      2. England options

Whatever their chances at Euro 2016, England do seem to have a plethora of decent attacking options and they’re all good enough to do damage in the qualifying campaign. They got a good run against San Marino and will be presented with a different challenge here, but we think they’ll find a way to score goals.

      3. Odds still decent

England are relatively strong favourites with a win line at just 4/6, but that’s still an opportunity to add more than 50% to your stake in a game between one side that has a fantastic record in this qualifying campaign and one that has been less than impressive. Switzerland’s competitiveness against England is only in relative terms and the head to head record also reflects that.
